Prior to the uni daze, when I was about 14, me and my mate used to phone the local pizza place to order tubs of Ben & Jerry’s. We weren’t bothered about pizzas or burgers, we just wanted ice cream. Lo and behold they said yes, they would happily drop off tubs of Cookie Dough. Score.
Fast forward through the uni days. Life threw a curveball, as it tends to, with my dad falling ill. I dropped out of uni and found myself back at Carphone Warehouse selling phones (thrilling, I know), thinking there’s got to be more to life than this. Me and my dad, we were a pair of foodies. We loved watching cooking shows together. In fact, as a young kid I used to design menus for fun. No joke. We dreamed of starting a food venture, something to really sink our teeth into. Sadly dad never got to see it.
Before I knew it, things went viral. Suddenly, I’m not just a guy with a car boot full of cakes; I’m the pioneer of dark kitchens – except I was doing it before it was cool and way before Deliveroo. Me and a mate, flogging cakes out of my mum’s house, with a living room full of delivery drivers. “First cake delivery service in the world,” they said. Well, I don’t know if that’s true, but it’s got a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?
Anyway, with a bit of a nudge from fate and possibly a moment of madness, I flung up a Facebook page – ‘Get Baked - Munchies Delivered’. I thought it’d just be me and my trusty car, my mum on the blower, traipsing around Leeds with cakes. It was less of a business plan and more of a ‘let’s see if this sticks’. And stick it did. Turns out people quite like the idea of cake on demand. Who knew?
GET BAKED, then. It’s come a long way from those wild early days. We’re in the business of happiness, really. Cake equals happiness; it’s simple maths.
We’ve built something special – a place where you can forget the diet for a minute and treat yourself. After all, what’s life without a bit of sweetness?
So, welcome to GET BAKED: home of the delicious, the indulgent, and the slightly absurd.
Where every bite is a reminder that sometimes, the best things in life are covered in chocolate. Or cream. Or ganache (which is chocolate and cream mixed together).
Oh and there was this ‘sprinklegate’ thing in 2021.
We also make a giant cake called Bruce. We think it could end up being a pretty big deal.
So yeah, that’s us.
